2 Peter 1:20-21
King James Version
20 Knowing this first,
that no prophecy of the scripture
is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came
not in old time by the will of man:
but holy men of God spake
as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
When GOD made me born again in 2019, right away He led me to Bible prophecy.
Over six years afterwards, and 113 blogs later, His SPIRIT imprinted something in my heart today.
It was now time to look at the "messengers".
Who were they?
Why were they chosen?
What did GOD ask them to do?
Why did He speak through them?
What were the circumstances of their anointing, appointment, and acceptance?
What reproach, what reproof did GOD say, through these prophets?
Here's what I found --
First, in the Old Testament.
The first set of relevant verses in each prophet's book, as implanted in my heart by the HOLY SPIRIT:
Isaiah 1:1-4
King James Version
1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz,
which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem
in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah,
kings of Judah.
2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth:
for the Lord hath spoken,
I have nourished and brought up children,
and they have rebelled against me.
3 The ox knoweth his owner,
and the ass his master's crib:
but Israel doth not know,
my people doth not consider.
4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity,
a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters:
they have forsaken the Lord,
they have provoked the Holy One of Israel
unto anger, they are gone away backward.
Jeremiah 1:1-7
King James Version
1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah,
of the priests that were in Anathoth
in the land of Benjamin:
2 To whom the word of the Lord came
in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah,
in the thirteenth year of his reign.
3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim
the son of Josiah king of Judah,
unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah
the son of Josiah king of Judah,
unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive
in the fifth month.
4 Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee;
and before thou camest forth out of the womb
I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee
a prophet unto the nations.
6 Then said I, Ah, Lord God!
behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
7 But the Lord said unto me,
Say not, I am a child:
for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee,
and whatsoever I command thee
thou shalt speak.
Ezekiel 1:1-5
King James Version
1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year,
in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month,
as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar,
that the heavens were opened,
and I saw visions of God.
2 In the fifth day of the month, which was
the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity,
3 The word of the Lord came expressly
unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi,
in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar;
and the hand of the Lord was there upon him.
4 And I looked, and, behold,
a whirlwind came out of the north,
a great cloud,
and a fire infolding itself,
and a brightness was about it,
and out of the midst thereof
as the colour of amber,
out of the midst of the fire.
5 Also out of the midst thereof
came the likeness of four living creatures.
And this was their appearance;
they had the likeness of a man.
Daniel 1:1-6
King James Version
1 In the third year
of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah
came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon
unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim
king of Judah into his hand,
with part of the vessels of the house of God:
which he carried into the land of Shinar
to the house of his god;
and he brought the vessels
into the treasure house of his god.
3 And the king spake unto Ashpenaz
the master of his eunuchs,
that he should bring certain of the children of Israel,
and of the king's seed, and of the princes;
4 Children in whom was no blemish,
but well favoured,
and skilful in all wisdom,
and cunning in knowledge,
and understanding science,
and such as had ability in them
to stand in the king's palace,
and whom they might teach the learning
and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
5 And the king appointed them
a daily provision of the king's meat,
and of the wine which he drank:
so nourishing them three years,
that at the end thereof
they might stand before the king.
6 Now among these were of the children of Judah,
Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names:
for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar;
and to Hananiah, of Shadrach;
and to Mishael, of Meshach;
and to Azariah, of Abednego.
8 But Daniel purposed in his heart
that he would not defile himself
with the portion of the king's meat,
nor with the wine which he drank:
therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs
that he might not defile himself.
9 Now God had brought Daniel into favour
and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.
Hosea 1:1-5
King James Version
1 The word of the Lord
that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri,
in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah,
kings of Judah,
and in the days of Jeroboam
the son of Joash, king of Israel.
2 The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea.
And the Lord said to Hosea,
Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms
and children of whoredoms:
for the land hath committed great whoredom,
departing from the Lord.
3 So he went and took Gomer
the daughter of Diblaim;
which conceived, and bare him a son.
4 And the Lord said unto him, Call his name Jezreel;
for yet a little while, and I will avenge
the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu,
and will cause to cease the kingdom
of the house of Israel.
5 And it shall come to pass at that day,
that I will break the bow of Israel,
in the valley of Jezreel.
Joel 1:1-6
King James Version
1 The word of the Lord that came to Joel
the son of Pethuel.
2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear,
all ye inhabitants of the land.
Hath this been in your days,
or even in the days of your fathers?
3 Tell ye your children of it,
and let your children tell their children,
and their children another generation.
4 That which the palmerworm hath left
hath the locust eaten;
and that which the locust hath left
hath the cankerworm eaten;
and that which the cankerworm hath left
hath the caterpiller eaten.
5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep;
and howl, all ye drinkers of wine,
because of the new wine;
for it is cut off from your mouth.
6 For a nation is come up upon my land,
strong, and without number,
whose teeth are the teeth of a lion,
and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
Amos 1:1-6
King James Version
1 The words of Amos,
who was among the herdmen of Tekoa,
which he saw concerning Israel
in the days of Uzziah king of Judah,
and in the days of Jeroboam
the son of Joash king of Israel,
two years before the earthquake.
2 And he said,
The Lord will roar from Zion,
and utter his voice from Jerusalem;
and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn,
and the top of Carmel shall wither.
3 Thus saith the Lord;
For three transgressions of Damascus,
and for four,
I will not turn away the punishment thereof;
because they have threshed Gilead
with threshing instruments of iron:
4 But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael,
which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.
5 I will break also the bar of Damascus,
and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven,
and him that holdeth the sceptre
from the house of Eden:
and the people of Syria shall go into captivity
unto Kir, saith the Lord.
6 Thus saith the Lord;
For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four,
I will not turn away the punishment thereof;
because they carried away captive
the whole captivity,
to deliver them up to Edom:
Obadiah 1-4
King James Version
1 The vision of Obadiah.
Thus saith the Lord God concerning Edom;
We have heard a rumour from the Lord,
and an ambassador is sent among the heathen,
Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
2 Behold, I have made thee small
among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.
3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee,
thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock,
whose habitation is high;
that saith in his heart,
Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle,
and though thou set thy nest among the stars,
thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord.
Jonah 1:1-4
King James Version
1 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah
the son of Amittai, saying,
2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city,
and cry against it;
for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish
from the presence of the Lord,
and went down to Joppa;
and he found a ship going to Tarshish:
so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it,
to go with them unto Tarshish
from the presence of the Lord.
4 But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea,
and there was a mighty tempest in the sea,
so that the ship was like to be broken.
Micah 1:1-6
King James Version
1 The word of the Lord that came to Micah
the Morasthite in the days of Jotham,
Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah,
which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.
2 Hear, all ye people;
hearken, O earth, and all that therein is:
and let the Lord God be witness against you,
the Lord from his holy temple.
3 For, behold,
the Lord cometh forth out of his place,
and will come down, and tread
upon the high places of the earth.
4 And the mountains shall be molten under him,
and the valleys shall be cleft,
as wax before the fire,
and as the waters
that are poured down a steep place.
5 For the transgression of Jacob is all this,
and for the sins of the house of Israel.
What is the transgression of Jacob?
is it not Samaria?
and what are the high places of Judah?
are they not Jerusalem?
6 Therefore I will make Samaria
as an heap of the field,
and as plantings of a vineyard:
and I will pour down the stones thereof
into the valley, and I will discover
the foundations thereof.
Nahum 1:1-7
King James Version
1 The burden of Nineveh.
The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2 God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth;
the Lord revengeth, and is furious;
the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries,
and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger,
and great in power,
and will not at all acquit the wicked:
the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind
and in the storm, and the clouds
are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry,
and drieth up all the rivers:
Bashan languisheth, and Carmel,
and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
5 The mountains quake at him,
and the hills melt,
and the earth is burned at his presence,
yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
6 Who can stand before his indignation?
and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger?
his fury is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are thrown down by him.
7 The Lord is good,
a strong hold in the day of trouble;
and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Habakkuk 1:1-7
King James Version
1 The burden
which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
2 O Lord, how long shall I cry,
and thou wilt not hear!
even cry out unto thee of violence,
and thou wilt not save!
3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity,
and cause me to behold grievance?
for spoiling and violence are before me:
and there are that raise up strife and contention.
4 Therefore the law is slacked,
and judgment doth never go forth:
for the wicked doth compass about the righteous;
therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
5 Behold ye among the heathen,
and regard, and wonder marvelously:
for I will work a work in your days
which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans,
that bitter and hasty nation,
which shall march through the breadth of the land,
to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their's.
7 They are terrible and dreadful:
their judgment and their dignity
shall proceed of themselves.
Zephaniah 1:1-6
King James Version
1 The word of the Lord
which came unto Zephaniah
the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah,
the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah,
in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.
2 I will utterly consume all things from off the land,
saith the Lord.
3 I will consume man and beast;
I will consume the fowls of the heaven,
and the fishes of the sea,
and the stumbling blocks with the wicked:
and I will cut off man from off the land,
saith the Lord.
4 I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah,
and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place,
and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;
5 And them that worship
the host of heaven upon the housetops;
and them that worship and that swear by the Lord,
and that swear by Malcham;
6 And them that are turned back from the Lord;
and those that have not sought the Lord,
nor enquired for him.
Haggai 1:1-7
King James Version
1 In the second year of Darius the king,
in the sixth month, in the first day of the month,
came the word of the Lord by Haggai
the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel,
governor of Judah, and to Joshua
the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,
2 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying,
This people say,
The time is not come,
the time that the Lord's house should be built.
3 Then came the word of the Lord
by Haggai the prophet, saying,
4 Is it time for you, O ye,
to dwell in your cieled houses,
and this house lie waste?
5 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts;
Consider your ways.
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little;
ye eat, but ye have not enough;
ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink;
ye clothe you, but there is none warm;
and he that earneth wages earneth wages
to put it into a bag with holes.
7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts;
Consider your ways.
Zechariah 1:1-6
King James Version
1 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius,
came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah,
the son of Berechiah,
the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
2 The Lord hath been sore displeased
with your fathers.
3 Therefore say thou unto them,
Thus saith the Lord of hosts;
Turn ye unto me, saith the Lord of hosts,
and I will turn unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.
4 Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom
the former prophets have cried, saying,
Thus saith the Lord of hosts;
Turn ye now from your evil ways,
and from your evil doings:
but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me,
saith the Lord.
5 Your fathers, where are they?
and the prophets, do they live for ever?
6 But my words and my statutes,
which I commanded my servants the prophets,
did they not take hold of your fathers?
and they returned and said,
Like as the Lord of hosts thought to do unto us,
according to our ways,
and according to our doings,
so hath he dealt with us.
Malachi 1:1-5
King James Version
1 The burden of the word of the Lord
to Israel by Malachi.
2 I have loved you, saith the Lord.
Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us?
Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the Lord:
yet I loved Jacob,
3 And I hated Esau,
and laid his mountains and his heritage waste
for the dragons of the wilderness.
4 Whereas Edom saith,
We are impoverished,
but we will return and build the desolate places;
thus saith the Lord of hosts,
They shall build, but I will throw down;
and they shall call them, The border of wickedness,
and, The people against whom
the Lord hath indignation for ever.
5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say,
The Lord will be magnified
from the border of Israel.
Second, in the New Testament.
With JESUS, being the PROPHET of ALL prophets:
Matthew 17:4-9
King James Version
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus,
Lord, it is good for us to be here:
if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles;
one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold,
a bright cloud overshadowed them:
and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said,
This is my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased;
hear ye him.
6 And when the disciples heard it,
they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said,
Arise, and be not afraid.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes,
they saw no man, save Jesus only.
9 And as they came down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them, saying,
Tell the vision to no man,
until the Son of man be risen again
from the dead.
Matthew 21:8-11
King James Version
8 And a very great multitude
spread their garments in the way;
others cut down branches from the trees,
and strawed them in the way.
9 And the multitudes that went before,
and that followed, cried, saying,
Hosanna to the son of David:
Blessed is he
that cometh in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna in the highest.
10 And when he was come into Jerusalem,
all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
11 And the multitude said,
This is Jesus
the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
Luke 19:10
King James Version
10 For the Son of man is come to seek
and to save that which was lost.
John 3:16-17
King James Version
16 For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world
to condemn the world;
but that the world through him
might be saved.
Revelation 19:9-11
King James Version
9 And he saith unto me, Write,
Blessed are they which are called
unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.
And he saith unto me,
These are the true sayings of God.
10 And I fell at his feet to worship him.
And he said unto me, See thou do it not:
I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren
that have the testimony of Jesus:
worship God:
for the testimony of Jesus
is the spirit of prophecy.
11 And I saw heaven opened,
and behold a white horse;
and he that sat upon him
was called Faithful and True,
and in righteousness he doth judge
and make war.
As befell the prophets , with JESUS being the GREATEST prophet of them all, He experienced unbelief among people:
Mark 6:4-6
King James Version
4 But Jesus, said unto them,
A prophet is not without honour,
but in his own country,
and among his own kin,
and in his own house.
5 And he could there do no mighty work,
save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk,
and healed them.
6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief.
And he went round about the villages, teaching.
As it was then, so it is today.
People continue in their unbelief.
To the detriment of their soul, of course.
Psalm 37:20
King James Version
20 But the wicked shall perish,
and the enemies of the Lord shall be
as the fat of lambs: they shall consume;
into smoke shall they consume away.
Matthew 24:37-39
King James Version
37 But as the days of Noah were,
so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood
they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage,
until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came,
and took them all away; so shall also
the coming of the Son of man be.
2 Peter 3:3-4
King James Version
3 Knowing this first,
that there shall come in the last days scoffers,
walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying,
Where is the promise of his coming?
for since the fathers fell asleep,
all things continue as they were
from the beginning of the creation.
It is time to believe in JESUS, for it was He who had been prophesied by all the prophets.
Be as this humble father was:
Mark 9:24
King James Version
24 And straightway
the father of the child cried out,
and said with tears,
Lord, I believe;
help thou mine unbelief.
As JESUS Himself told him:
Mark 9:23
King James Version
23 Jesus said unto him,
If thou canst believe,
all things are possible
to him that believeth.
